NPQML Programme

The Hackney Teaching Schools’ Alliance works in partnership with the IOE to deliver the nationally recognised NPQML programme.

NPQML is a recognised qualification that provides national recognition of leadership development and professional achievement as a middle leader.

Our programme is for middle leaders in primary and secondary schools, or those who are about to take on a substantive middle leadership role. It is expected that applicants have or will have responsibility for leading a team within the school and is also aimed at key stage, subject and curriculum leaders. To achieve the qualification, you’ll need to complete two core (compulsory) modules and one elective module, with a focus on driving successful team performance and improving classroom practice. The modules are delivered through 1 full day session, 1 half-day session and 5 two hour twilight sessions. NPQML is      delivered through the Institute of Education by an experienced trainer along with a Specialist Leader in    Education (SLE).

Completion takes on average 12 months and there will be a final  assessment at the end of the programme. Assessment focuses on tasks linked to school improvement activities undertaken in the  workplace and your  learning from the modules. The final assessment is a task drawn from work on a school improvement priority where you lead at team level for an extended period. If you meet the competencies at final assessment, the qualifications will be awarded by NCTL. For both programmes, you’ll need to show that you can:

  • make successful and sustainable improvement in your school
  • use the experience to reflect upon and improve your own leadership skills.
